Jerry Snyder's Guitar School This book is written for adult learners. It has everything from the beginning to intermediate playing. This book does not provide all the material in order. It is organized by topic, so its helpful as a lessons resource but may be difficult to go through on your own.
Guitar Method Book 1 from Hal Leonard: This book is good for beginners who are unfamiliar with sheet music completely and do not know how to find notes on the guitar. It has lots of easy tunes. This book is in first position only.
Guitar Method Book 2 from Hal Leonard: This book has more advanced melodies and discusses more advanced and applicable skills such as styles, scales, improvising, power chords, etc. The second book introduces and uses tabs.
There is also a complete edition that has all both of these books and the third volume.
